le Carré (John) A Small Town in Germany, first edition signed presentation copy, to verso of half title, the odd spot, light browning to endpapers, slightly foxed fore-edges, original cloth, bumping to spine ends, extremities, and corners, dust-jacket, clipped, small tear and slight loss to top corner between front flap and cover, extremities slightly rubbed, light staining verso, otherwise a very good example, 8vo, Heinemann, 1968. *** Presentation inscription reads: "For Edward Milward-Oliver with best wishes from John le Carré / Thank you for your kind letter. Somebody says of Leo Harting that they wouldn't like to have his dreams, & your letter reminded me of this: It seems to me now that the whole book is Leo's nightmare." Leo Harting is the central missing character in the political thriller; reference to the plot makes this a unique presentation. Edward Milward-Oliver was a writer and bibliographer, known for his work on spy fiction and writers like Len Deighton.
