Brooke (Rupert).- Shakespeare (William) The Tragedy of Anthony and Cleopatra [&] Love's Labour's Lost [&] Perciles [&] The Merry Wives of Windsor, 4 vol., Rupert Brooke's copies with his pencil ownership inscription "Rupert Brooke 1909" to Anthony and Cleopatra front free endpaper and his posthumous library labels to front pastedowns, pencil notes, comments and passage highlights in Brooke's hand to c.37 pages, spotting, light foxing to endpapers, original cloth, backstrips detached or lacking, rubbing and marking, 8vo, 1905-07. *** Four volumes from the Arden Shakespeare with a remarkable poetic provenance. Brooke's notes appear to be limited to three of the four volumes (The Merry Wives of Windsor being possibly unread, it's spine, unlike the others still intact), the majority consisting of passage highlights thought with occasional comments on the text or printed notes. Brooke quotes Swinburne in praise of Antony's speech "Sometime we see a cloud that's dragonish" (p.160).
