Du Maurier (George) Trilby, first edition in the original 8 parts in Harper's New Monthly Magazine, nos. 524-31, one or two marginal spots, original printed wrappers, spines a little creased, very minor rubs and dents to extremities, overall a bright, clean set, preserved in a custom box, 8vo, New York, January-August 1894. *** A fantastic example of Du Maurier's best known work in the original parts featured in Harper's New Monthly Magazine. This edition contains the character Joe Sibley, an obvious characterisation of James McNeill Whistler, who initiated legal action against the author and Harper Brothers, demanding that all references to Sibley be removed from future editions. Whistler won the lawsuit and all references in question were removed prior to the novel's publication in book form.
