Calendar, in Middle Dutch, illuminated manuscript on vellum, [Netherlands (probably Utrecht or vicinity), second half of the fifteenth century], 5 leaves (originally 6, but leaf with March-April wanting; single modern endleaves at front and back), a single gathering from the front of a codex, perhaps a Missal or large Book of Hours, text in 32 lines of a professional angular late medieval bookhand, capitals touched in red, red month names and especially honoured saints, one-line initials in alternate blue and gold, evidently separated from its parent volume for some decades at least, with a German-language typed description of the contents loosely inserted and a similar inscription on last pastedown dated “30.6.70” (ie. 1970), slight cockling to initial leaves, a few spots and stains, else excellent condition, c.185 x 145 mm; bound in modern limp vellum, with protective ‘onionskin’ papers between each leaf *** From a liturgical manual, most probably produced for use in the Low Countries, and perhaps within the diocese of Utrecht: with SS. Odulphus (the canon of Utrecht, d. 855) in red for 12 June, Lebuin (Frisian missionary, who died at Deventer c. 755) in red for 12 November, with his translation also in red on 25 June as in Utrecht traditions, and Willibrord, (missionary and first bishop of Utrecht) in red on 7 November; as well as other more widely worshipped regional saints, such as Lambert of Maastricht (red on 17 September) and Bavo of Ghent (red, on 1 October).
