593 - Overglaze-painted porcelain. 18.2 cm in diameter. "1917–1921" and "4" on the center of the plate; a Cyrillic slogan painted on the rim: "Workers of the world, unite!" On the bottom, against a sky-blue glaze, appears the hammer-and-sickle emblem with the date “1921.” Slightly to the left is a brushstroke of green paint, near where, in other examples that have appeared on the market, the coat of arms of Russia’s last Tsar, Nicholas II, would typically appear. “7” is dry-stamped near the rim. This commemorative porcelain piece celebrates the 4th anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917, when the Bolsheviks overthrew the monarchical government to establish the first socialist state in history. Rudolf Vilde was one of the leading ceramists of the Royal House both before and after the revolution, producing only a few series with various designs of these rare collectible plates. (1) Negligible signs of wear. Excellent overall condition.
