A collection of 4 sheets, meticulously illustrated in pencil on both sides. Approx. 142x190 mm each. Scattered titles written in pencil along the margins. The sheets feature 23 framed scenes conceived as sketches, later executed in oil on paper, and finally transformed into engravings for the illustrations intended for Francesco Bertolini’s book *Storie di Roma*, published in 1884 and reissued by Fratelli Treves of Milan in 1890. Some of these scenes were reprinted in the early 20th century in a much larger format, such as *Virginio Saves His Daughter’s Honor by Killing Her* or *The Death of Marcus Manlius*. Some auction records for the paintings on cardboard can be found at *Il Ponte* in Milan or *Pandolfini* in Florence. (4) Sheets are slightly browned. One work—the only one executed on lightweight paper—has a central crease and small marginal tears. Overall, in good condition.
