421 - Max Klinger, *Epithalamia*. Illustrated with pen-and-ink drawings by Max Klinger; text by Elsa Asenijeff. Published by Amsler and Ruthardt, Berlin, 1907. Imperial folio album (690 x 535 mm). Includes 1 title page + 16 text plates framed by photogravures based on drawings by Max Klinger. Loose sheets bound in a publisher’s folder covered in full gray cloth with a gold-lettered title. Singer, 254. A beautiful collaborative work by Max Klinger and his longtime partner, the writer Elsa Asenijeff, to which the Leipzig artist contributed sumptuous marginal drawings of a mythological nature, featuring deities, marine creatures, etc., which partly echo the layout of the previously illustrated *Amor and Psyche*—a fable to which the beginning of the text alludes, before moving on to the Trojan War. The final plate depicts the poet Homer writing. (1) Scattered discoloration concentrated on the first few plates, including the title page. Traces of foxing and moisture along the margins. Binding with defects. Overall in good condition.
