Franz Schott (Franciscus Schottus) or Francesco Scoto, Siena. 1610–1649. Copper engraving. 125 × 182 mm. Sheet: 150x203 mm. With the title at the top center and, on the left, a round cartouche featuring a wolf and twins. This view differs slightly from others accompanying the numerous editions of the volume by Franz Schott (Franciscus Schottus) or Francesco Scoto (Antwerp, 1548–1622), *Itinerario, or Nova descrittione de’ viaggi principali d’Italia*: in which there is full information on all the most notable things, & worthy of being seen. The first Italian edition was published in Venice in 1610 by the publisher Francesco Bolzetta; based on the Latin text of 1601, the title erroneously listed Andreas as the author. All subsequent Italian editions were derived from this first edition. Thanks to Francesco Bolzetta, the Vicenza editions of 1615, 1622, and 1638, as well as the Padua editions of 1629, 1642, and 1649, were published. ADDITION: Alexandre de Rogissart (active between 1706 and 1738), Siena. In Leiden: Published by Pierre Vander Aa, 1706 and 1709. Copper engraving. 114x152 mm. Sheet: 152x175 mm. From *Les delices de l'Italie, contenant une description exacte du Païs, des principales villes,...* Leiden, 1709 and later editions. (2) Both plates have wide margins, with slight traces of typical publisher’s folds and signs of use.
