Colored copperplate engraving with gold details on the figures in the cartouche. 490x578 mm. Sheet: 535x623 mm. From *Atlas minor sive totius orbis terrarum contracta delinea ex conatibus Nico. Visscher*. In the upper right corner, an elaborately decorated cartouche for the title, featuring the figures of the Pope and Emperor Constantine in the center, along with the Vatican and Medici coats of arms. A triton emerges from the water, holding a banner under the gaze of two cherubs. On the left, in the pink sea, a compass rose indicating north with a lily. Beyond the Papal States and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the map depicts the Duchy of Ferrara, the island of Elba, and part of Corsica. This extremely detailed map also includes the road leading from Piacenza to Rimini, on the Gulf of Venice. Topographical features are depicted in a pictorial style, with the larger cities represented as fortified citadels. (1) Sheet intact with original margins. Vertical fold in the center, reinforced on the reverse. Traces of old adhesive at all four corners, particularly noticeable on the reverse. Slight yellowing of the sheet.
