The painting depicts the very young Saint Aloysius, canonized in 1726, in accordance with traditional iconography, in adoration before the Crucifix next to a table on which rest his distinctive attributes: the lily and the marquis’s crown, abandoned among the vanities next to the skull, alluding to his rejection of the lordship of Castiglione delle Stiviere.
