153 - Martin Engelbrecht [publisher], Seven plates from *Il Callotto resuscitato*. Augsburg: Martin Engelbrecht, ca. 1715. Etching and engraving, hand-colored. 165x110 mm. Sheet: 230x180 mm. Lipperhide, xf II. Bauer/Verfondern, 181. Seven plates from *Il Callotto resuscitato oder Neu eingerichtes Zwerchen Cabinet* (*The Newly Decorated Dwarf Theater*), a series comprising a title page and 49 plates, likely published in Augsburg by Martin Engelbrecht in 1715. Text in German. Inspired by *Varie figure Gobbi*, engraved by Jacques Callot and first published in 1616, *Il Callotto Resuscitato*, which appeared in several slightly different editions, sparked a veritable craze for the dwarf genre in the early 18th century—a trend found not only in printed graphics but also in garden sculptures, paintings, and porcelain. Each edition features text in a different language and a border with varying decorations, scenes, and characters. The engravings of the characters are by various artists, including Jooste van Sasse, P. van Buysen Jr., Andries van Buysen Sr., Fopje Folkema and her sister Anna, Isaak Ledeboer, and Jacob Keyser. Bibliography: Günther G. Bauer, Heinz Verfondern, *Baroque Dwarf Caricatures from Callot to Chodowiecki*, Salzburg 1991. (7) All plates with margins as in the original; traces of binding on the left-hand side.
