Louis-Léopold Boilly [after], *Ça ira / Ça a été*. ca. 1792. Engraving with color. 505/510 x 385 mm. Sheet: 545 x 445 mm. Both plates were engraved by G. Texier (or Tessier), a French engraver born in 1750 and active approximately until 1799. This romantic pair of prints, as indicated by the titles (“It Will Be All Right” / “It Went Well”), depicts two moments in courtship. During the period of the Revolution and the Directory, Boilly’s genre paintings and romantic scenes were widely distributed and marketed precisely thanks to printed reproductions. (2) Both plates are mounted at the top within modern passe-partouts. Wide margins; some peeling and traces of dust along the left margin of one of the two.
