A porcelain anniversary service with Dutch landscapes Comprising a large octagonal bowl, a slop bowl, 16 cups and saucers. All pieces decorated with finely painted scenes of mountainous and waterside landscapes, ruins, churches and other architectural features. On the undersides of the saucer rims, inscribed in black enamel: “Souvenir de quarante cinq ans de marriage de H. A. de R. et J. B. de T. H.” All pieces signed in black enamel “Maria en Minette van Rappard” and variously dated “16 April 1839” and “25 April 1839”. Chips and hairline cracks to several pieces; one cup without a handle. Bowl width 34 cm. The porcelain French or Dutch; the decor by Maria and Minette van Rappard, 1839. The service can be readily identified on the basis of its particularly elaborate inscriptions and dates, and proves to be a very personal gift from the sisters Maria and Minette van Rappard to their uncle Hendrik Anton de Rappard (1767-1845) and his wife Johanna Benjamina de Thije Hannes (1771-1856), on the occasion of their 45th wedding anniversary. Provenance Sold at Venduehuis Auctioneers, The Hague, on 19 May 2017. The Dessing & Dröge Collection.
