Meissen Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur A rare Meissen porcelain tureen with sculpted artichokes and lemons Gotzkowsky relief model with side handles in the form of lemons and asparagus. The matching domed cover with an artichoke finial, volutes and a small lemon. Scattered small floral sprays and individual flowers after engravings. Blue crossed swords mark. Firing cracks to the finial, minor losses to the green pigment of the handles. Height with cover 28.5, width 31.5 cm. Around/after 1747. A similar tureen was produced for the extensive service commissioned by René Louis de Voyer de Paulmy, Marquis d’Argenson (1694 – 1757), which the Meissen manufactory delivered to France in 1747. In addition to vases and figurines, the order comprised a dinner service and a dessert service ‘[…] with flowers in relief beneath the glaze and natural flowers painted on the escutcheons, as well as a gold rim […]’. The present model is decorated more simply; it is probably a piece from a slightly later order for a service. Provenance Czech private collection. Literature Vgl.
