Meissen Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Johann Friedrich Eberlein Johann Joachim Kaendler A Meissen porcelain figure of a hunter with a gun and dog Two-figure group on a square rocky base, in front of a tree stump, applied with flowers and leaves. Unglazed, unmarked base with a hole. Partially restored. Height 18 cm. C. 1743–44, the model by Johann Friedrich Eberlein and Johann Joachim Kaendler, the moulding and decoration contemporary with the model. Ulrich Pietsch quotes Johann Friedrich Eberlein’s work reports from December 1743 as follows: “A hunter loading his gun, with a hunting bag containing partridges on his back and a dog beside him, modelled in clay [...]”. As early as October of the following year, Kaendler recorded the revision of the model, as intensive use had meant that it no longer produced sharply defined mouldings: “For His Royal Highness the Electoral Prince, a model in the form of a proper hunter with a gun and a dog beside him, corrected and restored to correct condition.” Provenance Frank Oberacker Art Gallery, Frankfurt. South German private collection. Literature The model is illustrated in Pietsch, Die Arbeitsberichte des Meissener Porzellanmodelleurs Johann Joachim Kaendler 1706–1775, Leipzig 2002, p. 105. Cf.
