A model of the three-masted ship Margherita Regina d'Italia Various types of wood, ivory, rope. Mounted on a marketed panel with rounded corners. On the base inlaid monogram "F.P." and date 1878. There are a few minor chips in the ivory, and some parts have been replaced with white-lacquered wood (?). H 115.5, L 147 cm. Unknown model maker, 1878. In 1878, King Umberto I and his wife Margherita ascended the Italian throne. This ceremonial model ship bears the name of the queen, who was born in 1851 as Princess of Savoy-Genoa. It is no longer possible to ascertain whether this sailing ship was ever actually built. Today, we know only of the two steam-powered warships, the Regina Margherita and the Benedetto Brin, which from 1898 represented the "Regina-Margherita-Klasse" and were built in La Spezia. Both ships sank off Brindisi in the turmoil of war in 1915 and 1916. Market authorisation DE-K-260303-099 for the EU internal market has been obtained.
