A porcelain panel depicting Emperor Franz Joseph as a Hungarian Hussar Polychrome overglaze painting on a porcelain plaque in a table frame of fire-gilt bronze. Engraved on the reverse "Alph. Giroux à Paris". Height 29.3 cm. The porcelain, Habsburg Monarchy; the frame, Paris, after 1867. This portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph in Hungarian gala uniform is based on a lithograph by Eduard Kaiser, presumably after a painting by Joseph Plank (1815-1901). The elaborate ormolu frame was produced in the workshop of François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux (1776-1848), which was continued by his sons after his death.
