A fabric border with figural embroidery Base fabric of red silk in satin weave, decoration in gold embroidery over preparatory drawing in couching technique and needle painting (satin stitch) in dyed silk, partially reinforced on the reverse with modern silk fabric. Three medallions depicting the Immaculate Virgin, Saint George and a polychrome coat of arms, framed by golden scrolling foliage. Losses to the embroidery, some wear to the fabric. Height 125, width 18.6 cm. Italy or Spain, 16th/17th C.
