Engraving based on the reverse view of Giovanni Battista’s painting in the Church of the Gesuati, completed between 1748 and 1749, the year the altar on which it is placed was consecrated. A beautiful impression in the first state of two, prior to the appearance of the number “31” in the upper left corner, on laid paper with a watermark of a “crowned coat of arms and a capital letter A.” Saints Rose and Catherine were Dominican Tertiaries, while Saint Agnes was a Dominican prioress; here, all three are wearing variations of the order’s habit. Saint Catherine of Siena is the figure dressed in white with a crown of thorns, holding the large crucifix—both attributes of her iconography. Next to her, Saint Rose of Lima holds the Infant Jesus in her arms and carries the rose from which she takes her name. Seated on the right, Saint Agnes of Montepulciano holds a small cross suspended from a thin thread; the cross and the thread are linked to an episode of an apparition recounted in her biography. Slight horizontal creases, a few minimal spots of foxing, two remnants of tape on the reverse, signs of wear.
