83 - Meister MZ, Couple in Love. 1500–1503. Engraving. 148 × 120 mm. Bartsch, VI, 16. Lehrs, VIII, 15. TIB / The Illustrated Bartsch, 0914.015. With the monogram on the plate at the bottom center. A proof that is still clearly legible despite the faintness of the line, by this rare artist (not unanimously identified by critics as Matthäus Zasinger), to whom Lehrs attributes only 22 engravings. Beautiful, thin laid paper without a watermark. On the front, lower right, the mark of the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett (Lugt, 1647), and on the reverse, the mark of the Art Institute of Chicago with the “duplicate” stamp (Lugt, 32b) and, again, the mark of the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett “Duplum veräussert” (Lugt, 1618). (1) The print has been trimmed to the copper plate’s edge, which is visible in places, and is mounted with two staples at the top within a modern cardboard mount. Very slight trace of a horizontal crease.
