78 - Hans Sebald Lautensack, Battle Scene. 1546. Engraving. 202x316 mm. Bartsch, IX, 20. Hollstein, 6. On the lower right of the plate is the monogram “HSL” in interlaced letters, traces of a second monogram “HL” on the reverse, and the date “1546.” An excellent print with good line definition on thin laid paper bearing the “Nuremberg coat of arms” watermark, similar to Meder, 204–206 (second half of the 16th century). On the reverse, at the bottom, a red-ink stamp from the Richard Jung collection (Lugt, 3791) applied twice. (1) The print is trimmed to the mounting line, fully visible with a few short sections of very narrow margin, mounted with two staples at the top within a modern cardboard mount. Very slight trace of a vertical fold in the center. Well-executed old restoration at the lower right corner.
