56 - Stefano Della Bella, Suite of Twelve Landscapes. ca. 1641. Etching. 82/95 x 135/142 mm. Sheet: 128 x 212 mm. De Vesme/Massar, 769–780. A rare, complete, and uniform series of twelve plates, sequentially numbered in the lower right corner and signed “Stella (or Stel.) Della Bella fecit (or fe.)”. Excellent proofs in the third state, not described by De Vesme and Massar, following the removal of Mariette’s inscription, of which “Chez” is still legible on plate 1 and “Mariette ex.” on plate 8. Beautiful, thin, light blue laid paper with an unidentifiable watermark fragment on most sheets. (12) All copies feature wide margins as originally intended, with binding marks on the left edge and traces of adhesive tape at the top, and are mounted in sets of four within three large, specially prepared passe-partouts. There is a missing section in the lower right corner of plates 4 (DVM, 772) and 9 (DVM, 777). Minor defects (very slight printing creases, minimal traces of foxing and stains).
