43 - Agostino Carracci, Madonna and Child with an Angel. ca. 1590–1595. Etching. 92x91 mm. Bartsch, XVIII, 7. DeGrazia, 15. On the plate, top left: “A.C.I.F.”; below: “Pietro Stefanone for.” An excellent proof of this rare engraving, in the second state of two following the appearance of Pietro Stefanoni’s signature, on thin laid paper without a watermark. On the reverse, a slightly faded ownership note in pen and brown ink by Pierre Mariette II (1634–1716) (Lugt, 1789). (1) The print has been trimmed to the framing line with narrow margins, except for a very short section at the lower right. It is mounted on modern cardboard with two staples at the top.
