Northern European School, Frieze with allegorical figures and Siamese twins (r) / Phytomorphic decoration (v). ca. 1500–1520. Woodcut. 140 × 24 mm. Small border frieze, likely a three-dimensional decorative element. At the top, two allegorical figures with serpentine legs separated by a pomegranate: an old man with a thick, braided beard and a bare-breasted elderly woman holding a spindle (perhaps corresponding to the Moira Lachesis). In the center are Siamese twins, and at the bottom are five birds pecking at round fruits from a basin. The reverse side features phytomorphic motifs. (1) This specimen has narrow margins extending beyond the framing line and is mounted at two points at the top within a modern cardboard mount.
