André LHOTE (1885–1962) Portrait of Anne, circa 1923 Black pencil. Signed in brown ink in the upper right corner. (Creases and stains). 49 x 33.5 cm This portrait is likely a preparatory study for one of the figures depicted in the 1923 oil-on-canvas painting titled *Le 14 juillet en Avignon*, held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Pau (83.15.1). This composition was subsequently reworked in a later oil on canvas of the same title, dating from the 1930s, currently on loan to the Musée de Valence. We would like to thank Ms. Dominique Bermann Martin for confirming the authenticity of this work, as well as for the information she provided to us.
