Néstor Martín-Fernández DE LA TORRE (1887–1938) Mermaid, circa 1905–1910 Gouache. Signed later, circa 1929–1930, on the reverse. 31 x 23 cm Néstor Martín-Fernández traveled to Paris in October 1912 to become a member of the International Union of Fine Arts and Letters. He was notified of his appointment by a letter signed by the secretary of that institution, Mr. Henry Breuil—a pseudonym for Alexis Mérodack-Jeaneau (1873–1919). This association had been founded in 1890 by Puvis de Chavannes, Meissonier, Rodin, and Carrière. We thank the Néstor Museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for confirming the authenticity of this work and for the information they provided.
