RAOUL CHANET (1935–2017) — "méditation" — oil on panel — signed — dated 1973 — 124 x 69 cm Raoul Chanet was a Belgian painter. While his work evolved over the years, magical realism remained at the core of his artistic approach. Chanet studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. His early career was marked by a persistent search for his own unique style. In 1965, he began creating his "material" works. Reflecting a new *zeitgeist*, this period proved highly successful, bringing him numerous opportunities and great personal satisfaction. From 1970 onward, he shifted his style radically, moving toward lacquered works. By the 1980s, he began producing pieces that featured a universe of magical symbols combined with realistic elements—a style known as magical realism. The magic emerges from the unusual juxtaposition of diverse objects, creating an enchanting, dreamlike atmosphere.
