PAOLO BONI (1926–2017) - "Cantabile" - carborundum relief engraving - hand-signed - dated 1975 - numbered 28/75 - Italian school - 55 x 37 cm Paolo Boni 1926 – 2017 Paolo Boni was born in Vicchio di Mugello, near Florence, in Tuscany, in 1926. He studied at the ‘Liceo Artistico’ (Art School) in that town, where he began exhibiting his early works in solo exhibitions from 1949 onwards. In 1954, he decided to settle in Paris, whilst continuing to exhibit his engravings and paintings regularly in France, Italy and New York. Over the years, Boni’s work has focused particularly on two distinct areas: ‘graphisculpture’ – a term coined in 1970 by the Milanese printer Alfonso Ciranna to emphasise the unique nature of Boni’s engravings – and painting, with one form feeding into the other.
