ARMAND JAMAR (1870–1946) — "Winter Landscape" — oil on panel — signed and dated — 29 x 37 cm Armand Jamar (1870–1946) was a Belgian painter – In 1900, Armand Jamar held his first exhibition in Liège and, in 1904, he moved to Schaerbeek, where he took over Constantin Meunier’s former studio. He also regularly took part in exhibitions at the Salon des artistes français. From 1920 onwards, he allowed light – particularly that of the sun-drenched countries he travelled to, such as Spain, Italy and Algeria – to burst forth more vividly in pure, bright tones. The forms and colours, now more intense, were worked with a brush and palette knife to achieve a style the painter intended to be lively, both supple and strong.
