D. R. Kongo, Yombe Colonfigur "bitumba" Holz, Pigmente, Glas, Spiegelglas „Bitumba“-Figuren wurden in eigens errichteten Grabhäusern aufgestellt und dienten dem Gedenken an bedeutende Verstorbene. Einige dieser Bauten besaßen lediglich zwei oder drei Wände. Die offene Vorderseite gewährte den Blick auf die vielfarbig gefassten Figuren, die auf einem Tisch oder Altar präsentiert wurden. Auf diesem Altar legte man Opfergaben für die Verstorbenen nieder. Nach Aufgabe der Grabhäuser wurden diese dem Verfall überlassen. Die Figuren gelangten anschließend entweder in den Besitz der Familie zurück, wurden veräußert oder verblieben vor Ort und verfielen.
