Kongo, Songe, Lomami-Becken und Provinz Große männliche Fetischfigur "nkisi" Holz, Pigmente, Harz/Wachs, Metall, Kupferlegierung, Schnur handgeschriebene Sammlungsnummer "HC 528" auf der Rückseite Als Mittler zwischen den Lebenden und den Geistern der Ahnen sollten solche größere "minkisi" dem Wohle der ganzen Gemeinschaft zugutekommen. Die Herstellung eines "nkisi" war ein großes soziales Ereignis, in das die ganze Dorfgemeinschaft, ein kunstfertiger Schnitzer und ein erfahrener Zauberpriester "nganga" involviert waren. Der Auftrag wurde vom Häuptling und den Ältesten erteilt, die Dorfgemeinschaft war für das Fällen des Baumes zuständig. Der Schnitzer entschied darüber, welche Holzart verwendet wurde - ausgewählt oft nach speziellen heilenden oder toxischen Eigenschaften - und bestimmte das Aussehen des "nkisi". Der Zauberpriester "nganga" stellte die magische Ladung "bishimba", bestehend aus tierischen, pflanzlichen und mineralischen Substanzen, zusammen, wodurch die Figur magisch aufgeladen und wirksam wurde.
