Die Luba konzentrierten sich überwiegend auf Abbilder des weiblichen Geschlechts, worin sich die Bedeutung der Frauen auch innerhalb der politischen Strukturen widerspiegelt. Weibliche Angehörige des Königshauses wurden mit Häuptlingen entfernt liegender Reiche verheiratet und so wurde der Machtbereich der Luba geographisch immer weiter ausgedehnt. Die Frauen bei Hofe waren befugt, an der Machtausübung mitzuwirken. Durch diese Rolle und durch ihre Fähigkeit, als Medium mit dem Reich der Ahnen in Verbindung zu treten, spielten Frauen eine ganz entscheidende Rolle im Leben der Luba.
