[DALI]. GÉRARD (Max) - DALI (Salvador). DALI DE DRAEGER. [Paris], Le Soleil Noir, printed by Draeger, 1968. Large square quarto, 242-[6] pages, publisher’s illustrated cloth binding with gilt, embossed flaps. Some signs of wear on the cover with small losses; a few loose leaves. FIRST EDITION of this publication by the Draeger printing house, compiled by writer and filmmaker Max Gérard, illustrated with 243 black-and-white and color reproductions by Salvador DALI. Opposite the title page, this copy is ENRICHED WITH AN ORIGINAL OIL PENCIL DRAWING BY SALVADOR DALI, along with an AUTOGRAPHED DEDICATION SIGNED AND DATED “For Carmie / Dalí 1968.” Dalí’s inscription extends onto the title page with a SHOOTING STAR AND DALÍ’S AUTOGRAPH SIGNATURE, beneath the book’s printed signature. A BEAUTIFUL SET, admirably composed. The drawing depicts a horseman holding a lance, likely Don Quixote. We have been unable to identify “Carmie”: perhaps it is an affectionate variant of “Carmen”?
