Paris, Stoupe & Servière, 1792. 50 volumes, in-8, in marbled fawn sheepskin, smooth spines divided by fillets and richly decorated with fleurons, gilded floral motifs and scrolls, title and volume number labels in ochre and ivy-green sheepskin, edges speckled with red (contemporary binding). IMPORTANT COLLECTIVE EDITION, published under the direction of Charles PALISSOT DE MONTENOY (1730–1814), playwright, literary critic, and member of the Academy, who accompanied the texts with notes and critical observations. This edition, based on the Kehl edition, brings together the philosopher’s major works: *La Henriade*, his tragedies and comedies, his poetry, historical works, philosophical writings, dialogues, novels, and short stories, as well as his extensive correspondence. Published in Paris at the beginning of the French Revolution, this collection bears witness to the spread of Voltairean thought in the late 18th century. The last five volumes of the selected letters, published later, are MISSING from our set. A BEAUTIFUL SET IN UNIFORM BINDINGS FROM THE PERIOD. ¶ Bengesco, IV, pp. 206–208, no. 2183.
