90 - MEDIAVILLA [or MIDDLETON] (Richard de). The Most Sacred Theologian Richard de Mediavilla of the Seraphic Order of Friars Minor Conventual on the Most Subtle Questions of the First Sentences. Venetiis [Venice], by Lazarus Soardus [Lazzaro Soardi], June 1, 1507. In-folio, ½ ivory cloth with small corners, beige paper covers, smooth spine with paper title label (19th-century binding); (4) preliminary leaves, 151 leaves [i.e., 152: 2 folios numbered “5”], (1) blank folio. Light marginal water stains, mainly in the lower right corner (without affecting the text), more pronounced on the title page. POST-INCUNABULUM VENETIAN EDITION, published under the supervision of Francesco Benzoni, of the commentary on the first book of Peter Lombard’s “SENTENCES.” This volume constitutes the first part of the edition of the four books published by Soardi in 1507–1509. Printed in Gothic type in two columns, with tables in three columns, numerous ornate woodcut initials, and the printer’s mark in the colophon. Handwritten ex-libris “Domus Societatis Jesu Venetijs” at the top of the title page, attesting to its provenance from the Society of Jesus in Venice; another old inscription on the title page reads “A Coll. Martiano commod. Coll. Bononiensi” [A Collegio Martiano commodatum Collegio Bononiensi], meaning “Loaned by the Martiano College to the College of Bologna.” A blue, crossed stamp from the house of studies of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, Province of France: “Cong. SS. Redempt. / Domus Studiorum / Prov. Gallica.” A NICE COPY, preserved with good margins in a simple working binding made during the second half of the 19th century. ¶ USTC, 842391.
