78 - HERBELOT DE MOLAINVILLE (Barthélemy d'). BIBLIOTHÈQUE ORIENTALE, or Universal Dictionary containing, in general, everything pertaining to the knowledge of the Peoples of the East. Their histories and traditions—whether true or legendary—their religions, sects, and politics [etc.]. Paris, Compagnie des Libraires, 1697. Folio in marbled fawn sheepskin, unmarked ribbed spine in suede leather, red edges (contemporary binding); (16) ff., 1060 pp. Spine of the binding has been repaired, corners very worn with losses, scuffing on the covers; at the bottom margin, the quire endpaper has been gnawed away by a few millimeters, without affecting the text; the top margin from page 1017 to the end of the volume has been skillfully restored, with occasional loss of pagination. FIRST EDITION of this FUNDAMENTAL WORK, compiled by the renowned orientalist Antoine Galand. A GOOD COPY, despite the noted flaws. ¶ Hage Chahine, 2160.
