36 - CORNEILLE (Pierre). THE PLAYS OF P. CORNEILLE, with commentaries [by Voltaire], and other interesting pieces. No place [Geneva], no publisher’s name, 1765. Twelve volumes in 8vo, marbled fawn calfskin, smooth spine with compartments and ornamentation, title and volume number labels in garnet morocco, marbled edges (contemporary binding). SECOND EDITION edited by VOLTAIRE. This is a reprint of the 1764 edition, published in 12 volumes with the same engravings. It is ILLUSTRATED with a frontispiece by Pierre, engraved by Watelet, depicting “Genie Crowning the Bust of Corneille,” and 34 INSET ILLUSTRATIONS by GRAVELOT, engraved by Baquoy, Flipart, Lemire, Lempereur, de Longueil, Prévost, and Radiguet.
