Italian-style ½ dark brown sheepskin, chagrin-textured cloth covers, smooth, compartmentalized, and decorated spine, gilt title (contemporary binding); (2) title pages and plate index, 35 plates. Spines partially split, cap bands missing, water stains and foxing in the margins of some plates. FIRST EDITION of this ATLAS containing a PORTRAIT of the last Bey of Constantine and 34 PLATES, out of text, with serpentine borders of lithographed views. A text volume in 8vo format was published two years later. The work is enriched at the end with 5 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS dated “1865,” one in graphite and 4 in watercolor. ¶ Tailliart, 777.
