English description: Includes ten etchings by Louise Bourgeois, eight folded color plates based on photographs, and a full-page photograph. Two original half-leather-bound volumes (Judi Conant, Vermont). In the original cloth slipcase. One of 100 copies of the special edition featuring the ten original etchings in Volume I. In the standard edition (1,200 copies), only the ten preliminary drawings were reproduced. - The colophon in Volume I is signed by the artist and the author. The illustrations in Volume I of “Homely Girl” are based on drawings Bourgeois created in 1991 using a ballpoint pen. She reinterpreted these drawings in drypoint for the special edition, emphasizing the scratched quality of the lines that can be achieved with this technique. For the trade edition, she used photolithography to reproduce them (the plate marks are faux). The sources for the illustrations in Volume II are ophthalmological photographs of diseased eyes. Bourgeois reproduced them using photolithography. The Arthur Miller text in Volume I is repeated in Volume II; only a few passages selected by the artist were highlighted in red in Volume II. The highlighted text appears in both the special edition and the trade edition of Volume II. Spines slightly faded, with small scratches.
