With two full-page etchings and a color lithograph by Nicolas de Staël as the cover of the original bound paperback. Dark blue flexible suede ribbon with a red spine label (signed: P. L. Martin || 1971). After his family fled revolutionary Russia, he grew up in Brussels. The artist destroyed his early work, which was still influenced by Picasso, El Greco, and Cézanne. Later, he turned to abstraction. After three labor-intensive years marked by international acclaim, Nicolas de Staël took his own life at the age of 41. - The delicate hand-bound cover by the famous Parisian bookbinder Martin uses the colors of the original cover lithograph and relies solely on their effect and that of the material. Only the head edge has been gilded. - Book and cover in immaculate condition. Monod 7033 25.0 : 16.5 cm.
