Willi Baumeister. Deutsche Linoleum-Werke AG. Letterhead design. Ink over letterpress. Circa 1926. 29.7 × 21.0 cm. Starting time: approx. 12:56 p.m. (Schedule subject to change) Not previously documented in Baumeister’s oeuvre; may also be by another “Bauhaus” typographer. - The design combines the complete letterhead in two-color letterpress, set consistently in lowercase as required by the Bauhaus artists, with the distinctive DLW logo, here drawn in blue ink over pencil lines. - According to Wolfgang Kermer’s catalog raisonné, the authorship of the DLW logo cannot be determined, as the company archive was decimated by wartime losses, and Willi Baumeister did not begin working for DLW until the summer of 1927, whereas the logo had already appeared in an advertisement in January 1927. However, Baumeister’s involvement in the design seems certain (see Kermer, Cat. No. 60).
