Bauhaus – Metallic Festival. Feb. 9, 1929. Bells, Bells, and Bells Festival. Bauhaus Carnival at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Letterpress print on silver-coated cardstock. 10.4 × 13.9 cm. Announcement time: approx. 12:53 p.m. (schedule subject to change) Test print of the front exterior of the legendary invitation card. - The design of all printed materials for this festival was attributed to Johan Niegeman (1902–1977, Dutch architect). He initially worked in Gropius’s private office before taking up a teaching position at the Bauhaus in 1928–1929. - Due to its reduced color palette, the proof appears even more metallic than the final version. - “In a metallic-colored card printed in the delicate, lowercase Bauhaus typeface, the Dessau Bauhaus and its circle of friends had issued an invitation to a ‘Metallic Celebration.’ [...] The festival was dazzling, it was radiant [...] Even the entrance to the festival halls was original. It led down a [...] slide, on which one could see even the most dignified personalities gliding into the festival halls.” (Anhalter Anzeiger, February 12, 1929, quoted in Wingler, p. 164).—Very rare. See *A und O des Bauhauses* 251 and fig. 188, Wingler p. 499, and Fleischmann pp. 248–249 Minimally rubbed; slight pressure mark in the upper left corner.
