Wiener Werkstätte - Bertold Löffler. Macara Fledermaus. Two-tone enamel on bronze. Circa 1910. 8.1 × 6.5 cm. Monogrammed. Announcement time: approx. 12:36 (Schedule subject to change) For the 1909 performances of the comedienne Miss Macara at the Theater Fledermaus, Bertold Löffler designed a poster in 1909 that served as the model for this small-format enamel work. Such “derivatives” were typical of the merchandising by the Wiener Werkstätte and its affiliated institutions. - Koloman Moser also portrayed the dancers Elfriede Rossi and Miss Macara in 1909, the latter with her magnificent black-and-white patterned wings, which had also impressed Bertold Löffler. - Löffler’s poster, from the collection of the Albertina in Vienna, was part of the exhibition “Into the Night: Cabarets and Clubs in Modern Art” (Barbican Art Gallery, London, 2019–2020). - In excellent condition.
