Auction time: approx. 12:07 p.m. (Schedule subject to change) Dynamic, expressive, and rendered in vibrant colors. - On the reverse, a second tempera drawing (a woman’s head in profile). - Inscribed on the back of the accompanying frame: “RG. Bunk || Iris || Split 1950.” - Rudolf Gerhart Bunk was a student of Karl Hofer in 1927 and later studied at the School of Applied Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Ostracized in Germany as a second-generation Expressionist, he lived initially in Yugoslavia from 1938 onward but fled from the Wehrmacht to Italy and Egypt. In 1945, he returned to Split and became a successful set designer at the local People’s Theater. In 1958, he moved to Hamburg. See Rump/Bruhns, p. 71
