274 - Lyon Hospitals Medical Internship Award Medal 20th century Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Albert Herbemont (1874–1953), an acclaimed French sculptor and official Art Deco master medalist. Struck by the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris). Materials: Struck bronze with a heavy, multi-toned golden-brown patina and minor surface calcification/wear. Marking(s): Obverse Base: Inscribed in block capitals: "ALBERT HERBEMONT 1930" near the lower rim edge. Reverse Outer Rim: Ringed with bold, stylized Art Deco typography reading: "INTERNAT DES HOPITAUX DE LYON". Reverse Base (Recipient Engraving): Hand-incised tribute near the bottom boundary commemorating the graduating doctor: "JEAN MARIE MARTINON 1933" Cataloguer's Notes: This impressively large, high-relief commemorative masterpiece (~111mm in scale) was designed by Herbemont in 1930 to honor the elite corps of medical interns completing their rigorous hospital residencies across the historic city of Lyon.
