51 - Louis C. Tiffany (Amer., 1848-1933) Alhambra Watercolor Painting 20th century Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Louis C Tiffany (American, b. 1848 d. 1933) Materials: Watercolor on paper Marking(s): Signed "Louis C Tiffany" in lower right. Cataloguer's Note: Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) is universally celebrated for his revolutionary Art Nouveau glasswork, but his artistic foundation was rooted in painting under masters like George Inness. Throughout his career, watercolor served as a critical medium for Tiffany, allowing him to capture the fluid, luminous qualities of light during his extensive travels across Europe and North Africa, as well as to sketch out vibrant, intricate design concepts for Tiffany Studios. This work beautifully showcases his painterly eye and mastery of color harmony—preoccupations that would later define his iconic stained-glass masterpieces. Bridging the worlds of fine and decorative arts, Tiffany's paintings are rare and highly collectible artifacts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with his works held in prestigious public collections worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Frame H 22.5" x W 15.25" Image (as seen in frame) H 12" x W 6.75"
