Clos Mogador, 2004. D.O.Q. Priorat, Gratallops, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. Red wine. 6 bottles of 75 cl. In its original wooden box. Opened for inspection. Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate): 96/100. Condition: All six bottles are filled to the neck (IN, Into Neck). Original dark capsules, intact, with a maroon seal on top and the winery’s emblem in relief. Original front labels, intact and legible, with slight moisture stains and possible superficial traces of mold on some of them, without affecting the identification of the wine or the vintage. Original back labels preserved. Original Clos Mogador wooden case, labeled as the 2004 vintage. It comes from a private collection, stored under optimal temperature and humidity conditions. Clos Mogador is one of the most representative wines of the Priorat renaissance and one of the iconic creations of René Barbier, a key figure in the international recognition of this appellation. Produced in Gratallops from vineyards cultivated on steep slopes of llicorella—the region’s characteristic slate—it reflects a landscape of poor soils, low yields, and a marked Mediterranean influence. Its blend of Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah combines the intensity of ripe fruit with depth, freshness, and a unique mineral character. The 2004 vintage, particularly prized for its balance and structure, can offer—after aging in the bottle—a complex aromatic spectrum of blackberry, plum, black cherry, licorice, spices, cocoa, Mediterranean herbs, and notes of undergrowth, leather, and damp stone. On the palate, it stands out for its concentration, well-integrated tannins, and length—characteristics that explain its renowned aging potential. This vintage marks a pivotal moment in the consolidation of Clos Mogador as one of the great estate wines of the Priorat.
