Château Lynch-Bages, 1979, 1980, 1990, and 2001. A.O.C. Pauillac, Bordeaux, France. Fifth Growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux classification. Red wine. 4 bottles of 75 cl. Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate): 99/100 (1990 vintage). Condition: Levels ranging from BN (Base Neck) to TS (Top Shoulder). Original maroon capsules, intact, with scuffs and surface wear. Labels show varying degrees of deterioration: the 1979 bottle has stains, abrasions, and paper loss at the bottom; the 1980 bottle shows stains, missing sections, and peeling on the right side, as well as an import label; the 1990 bottle retains its complete label; and the 2001 bottle exhibits widespread stains and discoloration, though the main details remain legible. Only two of the bottles still have labels on the back. They come from a private collection cellar, maintained under optimal temperature and humidity conditions. Château Lynch-Bages is one of Pauillac’s most renowned historic estates and a leading example among Bordeaux’s Cinquièmes Grands Crus Classés. Situated on the Médoc’s characteristic gravel soils, the château produces wines with a distinct personality, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. This collection brings together four vintages from different decades, allowing one to appreciate the evolution of the estate’s style. The 1990 vintage stands out in particular, considered one of Bordeaux’s great historic vintages for its concentration, richness, and aging potential. The 1979 and 1980 vintages offer the appeal of mature Bordeaux wines, while the 2001 represents a more recent and classic expression of Pauillac. An attractive lot for collectors interested in the evolution of Château Lynch-Bages over time.
