Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate): 96/100. Condition: IN (Into Neck) levels in both bottles. Original maroon capsules intact and sealed. Front labels intact and legible, with ripples and wrinkles along the edges, small stains, and superficial scuffs. Back labels are complete and legible, with slight stains and signs of aging. In good overall condition. From a private collection, stored under optimal temperature and humidity conditions. Château Mouton Rothschild, located in Pauillac, is one of Bordeaux’s great historical landmarks and is among the five Premier Grand Cru Classé estates of the Médoc. The 1998 vintage features a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, characterized by its concentration, structure, and aromatic complexity. Notable are the notes of cassis, ripe black fruits, spices, leather, and toasty nuances, accompanied by a remarkable capacity for aging. The label for this vintage features “El Brindis,” a work by Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo, whose posthumous inclusion in Mouton Rothschild’s renowned art series adds a special appeal for collectors of fine wines and art.
