G. Constable and J. G. Links in “Canaletto. Giovanni Antonio Canal 1697–1768,” Oxford, 1989, nos. 95, 113, and 228 (plates 27, 29, 47). In fact, it “depicts the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore visible in the distance and, on the right, in the foreground, the Punta della Dogana. This is the only previously unpublished view, as it is not included in Canaletto’s catalog. Canaletto, in fact, had painted the same view, but from a closer distance and a different angle, with the church appearing almost centrally,” reproduced in Constable-Links, I, no. 299, II, no. 299, plate 57 (Lampronti, entry, p. 2). The attribution is considered to be subject to revision by Charles Beddington (communication of May 24, 2021), Giuseppe Pavanello (communication of May 24, 2021), and Anna Bozena Kowalczyk (communication of June 17, 2021). We thank Charles Beddington, Anna Bozena Kowalczyk, and Giuseppe Pavanello for their support in cataloging the work.
